I have used inverters in my vehicles for a few years and it is great to have one built-in at hand in the Nitro.

In addtion to the usual laptop, x-box, cell phoneapplications, I have used mobile power for the following uses:

To power a trouble light (note I use a compact flourescent bulb and it is very bright with low power.

Power a crock pot for tailgaiting at Hockey games

Run small appliances in the house during power failures with a long extension cord.

What other things have you all used this for?

we have used it to charge a cell phone, but normally it is used for the x-box that our sons love to play...I did joke with my wife last week when the power was out that we could plug in our four large aquariums. lol

Before I became a Military Paralegal I was a Truck Driver with the Militay and alway used inverters in my truck.
Worked great for the Coffee Pot, Laptop, and my Dremel Tool.

Since I have had my Nitro I havn't needed the Outlet yet. When I get to the states and start my leave I will need it to keep the kids quiet while driving accross the country.

Actually A UPS is a wise investment if you have expensive fish.

A regular PC-type UPS will work for the air pumps and filters (heaters are not usually that critical for short outages)

If you use an APC UPS, you can interface the PowerChute software to your home network and get an alert to check the fish via your smart phone.

Sorry-- I got carried away.

Just plug the air pumps into a computer UPS that you can purchase at Best Buy and they will run off the UPS automatically if the power fails. Buy the biggest UPS you can for the most run time.

tropical fish are way more sensitive to temperature change than freshwater fishes. You are right, for short periods, it should retain the heat ok.

If the heaters are small-- say 50-100W, you can run them off a small-to midsize UPS.

If any of you actually want to do this PM me and I will help with the details to pick the right UPS.

Well I plugged in the curling iron! Had to do a touch up on the hair. I figured it wouldn't work or blow out but it didn't. The husband was having major attitude problems when he saw what I was doing, ;)

He got over it and I had restored the hair!! And we continued the vacation without anymore of his attitude problems. ;)

Tell hubby not to worry. Unlike a blow dryer, curling irons and hair straigteners don't draw that much power--- curl away!!
