I know this thread is old but ive owned my 2007 nitro R/T for over a year now and ive taken it to the dealership, NTB, and a small mechanics shop that ive taken EVERY car ive ever owned to and they all told me its "normal"...even dodge told me its normal..this is a 10 year old car im very well aware that things are gonna go wrong with it but after reading this thread youd think theyd know to replace the gasket..maybe its not the gasket? Any other suggestions at what my issue could be? It only whistles when i accelerate and whoever owned it before me took it offroading and busted up the bottom of the car..dummy..The catalytic converter is dented to shit i had to pull the cover off it because it ended up falling off and dragging on the floor could that be where the whistle is coming from? Its a high pitched whistle everybody can hear it as im driving down the road..any help would be greatly appreciated!

I know this is an old thread, but my 2007 SLT 3.7 120,000 miles started making that whistling noise about 3 weeks ago. I recently had it in a shop for unrelated issues and they wrote on my receipt that the EGR tube is leaking exhaust. Nothing about a whistling noise nor did I mention it to them. I just assumed that the leaky tube is the noise maker. I'm taking it back in to get the tube fixed later this week. I'm hoping that fixes the problem.

Yep it is an old thread, regarding the 4.0. It turned out to be an oil port hole in the head gasket that was Mfg just a hair to small. As the oil passed thru the port it would whistle.

To make a long story short, (Ha!) I had my Nitro back in to replace the EGR tube (see previous post) And I also asked them to clean the EGR valve. They called me back and said the EGR valve was to carboned over to clean, something like that anyway and should just replace it. O.K. Better do it now I guess. I picked it up and though it sounded better or quieter it was still making a noise and it turns out the bearing was going bad in the alternator.

It's all better now. Except they recommend the gasket for the throttle body be changed out. Is that a biggie or an issue with Nitro's?

Not a known issue with the Nitro. Easy to swap out DIY if you want to.
Disconnect Neg battery cable, remove intake air tube, remove resonator if you have one, unplug TB plug, remove 4 nuts, remove TB, remove gasket. Replace gasket, reinstall opposite of above.

Hey guys. I have the 2007 4.0 R/T and I have that whistle sound as well. It can be annoying but it doesn't set off any codes so I just ignore it.
It doesn't really effect performance, just turn the radio up. LOL
I use 89. The Manuel states that 87 is acceptable but 89 is the preferred method.
Referring to what?

I have the 3.7 SLT 2007 Nitro. The whistle noise I had was coming from the upper or #1 EGR tube. Had the tube and seal replaced in a shop. It solved the problem for me. Also had the EGR valve and gasket replaced at the same time, but the whistle noise was definitely from the tube.
I've always used 87 octane except on rare occasions when and if I get a large discount from buying a lot of groceries, which does not happen much anymore!
