...for rear license plate? Today I bought a nice chrome frame for my license plate, I got home took off the plate and dealer frame. And found only two mounting holes behind the plate. Always when I shut the rear door the plate would rattle and bang against the paint. I thought the dealer just mounted the plate with two screws instead of four. That's why I decided to buy a new frame and mount it correctly. So now I must drill a couple of holes to secure the bottom of plate and frame. That's no big deal but I don't want to drill into something like wiring. Have any of you done this? I'm assuming it's fine but I thought I'd ask to make sure. Thanks, Randy

A couple things you might want to try first. A strip of the adhesive foam (like the kind they use to seal a cap on a pickup bed) on the back of the plate may keep it from vibrating againts the paint. Or some dual lock fastener. Its kind of like velcro, but better. 3M makes it. I used it to attach a front plate to a vehicle w/o a bracket.

I didn't want to drill, either, so I bolted the plate to the license plate frame with plastic bolts, and then ground the ends of the bolts down so it didn't stick into the door. Then I siliconed the plate to the bumper pads that are behind there with rtv silicone from the parts store. The pads may separate from the door sometime in the future, but nothing is perfect. If it does, and vibrates, I'll glue them down with the silicone, too

Thanks guys, I think I'll wait for saturday and try some of these ideas, I'll see what I can come up with. I don't really want to resort to the drill. Thanks again.
