I have a 3.7L Nitro and when you lightly put your foot on the gas it takes a few seconds before it starts to move. Like it has a delay or something. Now if I were to pull the plug on the TPS turn the truck on acc wait a min then turn it off then plug it back in turn the truck that will tell it to relearn itself right?

The Electronic throttle

There is no cable for the accelerator its electronic( the first step in drive by wire) is what nitroman is saying , I was a little leary of this new technology but I guess Daimler has used it for a while. :thk: and Yea what HV said (see Below)

what drive wire are you talking about?
Another way of saying this:

The type of throttle connection on the Nitro is commonly called 'drive by wire'. This is an electronic link only between the accelerator and the throttle body. Due to the this, there is a small delay between depressing the accelerator and the throttle responding. Resetting the on-board computer will have no affect on this. The more you drive your Nitro, the less you should notice this lag.

No. ETC (Electronic Throttle Control) relearn can only be performed with the StarSCAN. Unplugging the TPS with likely cause you a check engine light.

There have been methods posted on other forums about performing an ETC relearn to improve throttle response and delay. These methods do not work. When the RAM trucks with the 5.7L Electronic Throttle Body were introduced there was a key on/pedal to the floor/key off method, but that has long been replaced with the scantool relearn.

The throttle body is electronic and unless it is malfunctioning, which would require diagnosis, your Nitro throttle response is normal. Also, coming from a cable throttle the drive-by-wire will be different.

The old days

Should we go back to the old days? My 57 VW had a solid steel wire in a sleeve and a wooden wheel accelerator petal, (I will bet few here have seen one of them LOL) (imagine a upside down wheel castor) and I Had a 63 Buick with a 445cui 8 that had a Rube Goldberg linkage. :eek:ld:

So you're talking about the TPS reports right? I thought I put those on your desk yesterday....

*Sorry I had to when I saw TPS*

:thk:I was driving a Toyota FJ today and I noticed that it was not as responsive as my Nitro, That same lag that your taking about, no problem yet with my Nitro
Glad to hear that the FJ has the same if not worse problem. I first looked at the FJ but, after many other small SUV's, ordered a Nitro.

I realize that this drive-by wire thing is tied into the stability control, among other things. I wonder if I could still put a cable linkage on that would simply muscle past the throttle servo If I mashed the pedal?

Maybe 2 pedals is the way to go LOL!

I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING NOT MADE BY THE BIG THREE!!!!(forth everyone has forgotten about R.I.P AMC):-(
I'm with you on that.

Lets also not forget about Nash, Studebaker and Willy's that got eaten up in there too.

Of course one could argue that Chrysler is no more now that Daimler Bought them---- for now at least. It would be nice to see Chrysler emerge again as an American compay.

One more reason to buy a Nitro over the ugly Toyota FJ--- to help out a struggling Chrysler.
