Just completed putting Sport Utility Bars on the roof, the front hood Bug Gaurd and 4 window Wind Deflectors on this weekend. Man, it looks great and it feels good to drive a vehicle that has a personal touch to it. Most of the Nitro's I've seen around look pretty stock. It's addicting, makes me want to do so much more to it. I'm still looking for a light kit to suit my taste. I took it for a drive and while on the freeway got some hood vibration toward the back of the hood near the water sprayers. Has anyone else experienced this. It's a Wade brand bug gaurd and I am pretty sure that I put it on correctly, Measuring and lining it up several times, marking it and re-marking before installing any hardware. I guess I should add some pics of what I did and how it looks. Until then, any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.:)

Pretty much all Nitro owners who have fitted the bug deflector have found the same problem. It's due to the different air flow over the hood. There must be an area of turbulence where the windshield starts that causes air to be redirected under the back edge of the hood.

''AirJunky'' fitted a 1''x1''x10'' foam pad on the inside of his hood to stop the vibration. He said it is fine now.

I have the dodge chromed bug deflector on mine, from factory. My hood does a little vibrating. It bothers the hubby more than it bothers me.

As to deflecting the bugs...well, all I can say is this one works no better and no worse than any others I have ever had installed. That being said, my windshield still gets covered in bug guts...:(

Hey Ottawa, Those love bugs are in season down here right now and with the deflector installed I did notice a reduction in the number of bugs on my windshield.

Thanks for the tip C\L, I am definetly gonna give the foam pad a try, because like Sarah's Hubby, it really bothers me too. Thanks to all.

Has anyone noticed when driving on the highway a slight ice cracking type sound around the windshield area after installing the bug deflector?

I had my windshield replaced at the dealership and kept hearing the cracking sound afterwards and the dealership said it was the deflector that was causing the noise.

I have had my bug deflector for over a year and have not noticed that at all. Sorry

I was thinking of putting one on my Nitro......................not any more. It already shudders between 40 and 50 mph, I don't need the hood vibrating as well. I'll just wax the front real good and wash the bugs off every couple of days.

The only other "NEW" sound that I'm getting, after the installation of the bug gaurd is comming from the roof rails. I think air is being deflected under the driver side rail and if I hadent figured it out I would have compared it to an ice crackling sound. I read on another post about making sure they are tightened down, if not broken or cracked in that area, as a resolution. if cracked or broken they will need replacing which is not uncommon.
