With gas hitting all time highs and many of us...wanting more power.
What do you guys think of a small 8-10LBS boost turbo?
Seems reasonable with the space in the 3.7L, I am not familiar with the 4.0L.

So with most turbocharged cars getting between 23-30MPG and the power bonus.. it seems pretty enticing..:shy:

Also, it is a trend for the brands now, due to the 35MPG requirement in 2020.
Even Ford is contemplating a twin turbo Explorer......remind you of somthing?

I would be in for a little boost! If Dodge or an aftermarket company would make an exhaust with the wastegate, tuned PCM, and possibly modifying the injectors, the rest would be easy. I'd like to hear a blowoff valve now and then!! :Racing:

I would love a turbo but most likely with the price of a turbo kit (Usually $3000+) it would take awhile for me to get my money's worth.
Tell me if i am doing this math correct.

I drive 40Mi every day.
Around 5-7 Mi for errands
i get 17MPG at best.
i Work 6 days a week.
currently i pay $2.95 a gallon and it has hit $3.40 here so i dont doubt the 3.50 mark.
So how much would that be a year?

46/17= 2.8 Gallons a day.
2.8x6=16.3 a week
16.3x4x12=780Gallons a year
780x$2.95= $2,298 WOW i didnt realize how much it screws me over now! and this is just my Nitro!!
ok same figures at $3.50
780x$3.50=$2,730

THAT IS JUST CRAZY!:shakehead::eek:

Lets say a better Intake turbo and exhaust are added or some combination of the three. Wouldnt you say it should give me around 4 more MPG?
Tell me if you disagree.
lets see......
Same figures with 21MPG
2.2Gallons a day.
13.2Gallons a week
630Gallons a year.
$1861 at $2.95 a gallon
2,205 at $3.50

Well if i can get 4 more MPG it will make gas have 55cents a gallon less impact on me!thats $525 less a year.....
(compare 2.95 at 17MPG to 3.50 at 21MPG)

VERDICT: Is it worth it?
Probably not a turbo but an intake and exhaust are looking nice. If i can get 4MPG!

Jet chip
"I recently installed one of your performance modules on my new 2007 Jeep 4-door. In stock form, the 3.8L V6 develops peak torque around 4,000 rpm - after installing the module, there's a definite improvement in low-end torque (starts pulling strong from about 3,000 rpm). I bought the Stage 1 module which works nicely with the mild intake and exhaust mods I've made. Installation time for the module was about 10 minutes! So far, the module is working better than advertised - mileage has improved and performance is definitely better. Thanks for offering a high-quality, performance-improving device that's simple for the do-it-yourselfer to install."

"I installed a stage one Jet chip in my 2005 Durango (Hemi of course) I am very pleased with both performance and economy.I have also installed a Magnaflow exhaust and K&N air filter both before the chip. There is a small bridge almost exactly 1/4 mile from the exit out of the small Alberta Canada town I live in. I tried a few times a roll around the corner and punch runs to the bridge. The best I could pull was about 135 KPH in that distance. I put the chip in and pull 150 with my foot off of the floor. My gas mileage ran about 18 MPG (U.S. gals. on the overhead read out). The mileage now, if I behave myself, has run as high as 22 MPG at 68 to 70 MPH. Good job folks."

V10 Excursion 2.5MPG gain.

Well a Hemi V8 got 4 more MPG on the highway with the Jet chip alone...
Think our V6 can do that?

Intake

WhiteNitroCA got 2 more MPG with intake on the 4.0....
http://www.nitroforumz.com/showthread.php?t=8362&highlight=intake

Exhaust
Bowhunter4life said the Magnaflow increased his mileage 1.5MPG at least..

Im not sure how all of these would work together but if you add it...
2 jetchip $240
2 intake $240
1.5 muffler $200
That to me looks like a 5.5 MPG increase for the price of..
$680
Hum................... It would pay for itself in 2 years.
OK Nix exhaust
$480
Much better!

Most turbo cars are 4 cylinders. You can't get better mileage on the same engine by adding a turbo. You can get the same power and better mileage by using a smaller engine with a turbo. The idea is that a turbo allows you to have the power as needed (cruising you get a 4 cylinder mileage, accelerating you get a 6 cylinder power).

So with most turbocharged cars getting between 23-30MPG and the power bonus.. it seems pretty enticing.

So i think it would be safe to say the muffler would cost $200 That helps the cost a bunch. Well $680 seems feasable....

Then we'll have V8 power with Upgraded V6 economy.

not a bad idea, just say good bye to your warranty
I am a big fan of mods, but I would NOT put a turbo in my Nitro. I bought mine with a lifetime powertrain warranty. That would be completely gone if I added a turbo. Besides, there are numerous things that you can add to your Nitro that accumulate great hp gains without voiding the warranty or the extremely high price of a turbo kit.
Dont forget that, to get max benefit from a turbo, you need a high lb boost. That will most likely require a bit of work to the engine. Its not like you can just slap in a turbo pushing 15 lbs/40 to 100hp of boost on a stock motor and expect it to last.

Yea i think the turbo idea is dead.:(
But i think we can have the others with no problem
So putting on a new muffler voids your exhaust system warranty?

I am thinking of going the Flowmaster 70 series myself. I have been overruled by the boss, who is the primary driver of our Nitro. She says I can put on an exhaust, but doesn't want anything too loud. The 70 Series sounds like it should be just the ticket with a more subtle sound in the cabin, and a little bark when you lean on it. Does anyone have this system that can give any real world feedback???
