Well folks, I finally finished it. I built a custom mount for my Zune in my Nitro. You may have seen earlier incarnations as I was building it, and now it is complete. Oh and my wife confiscated my white Zune so I got a spankin new black one to match the interior. The mount when I finished looks Totally factory and fits in with the interior like it was meant to be there. I hope you enjoy it as I put quite a few hours into it. There is a video of it in operation on both my front and rear screen.

Wow, that looks great. Nice job.

Couple questions:

1. Does the video still show up on the front screen when you're driving?

2. I'm thinking of getting a zune, is it easy to transfer video over to it?

3. On the zune, is it possible to copy video from a non-copyrighted DVD directly to the zune? I have several of my dive videos on DVD and the original .avi's I used to burn the DVD have long since disappeared.

Nice job again, and take care of that cold!

thanks pe0n!

Monkey man... i would highly recommend the Zune over an iPod anyday... pe0n has one too. Extremely less restrictive than the ipod.

Video is extremely easy, I get all my music videos off of youtube.

You can rip full dvds to your Zune, you can also move your shows from your Tivo to your Zune for later viewing.

Remote How

Lil,

I love all that you've done and could not help being inspired by your Zune hook up. With that said I'm working on a similar set up of my own with my IPOD (even great minds must vary). So to begin, I've got my Pod of course, got an LCD mounted in that perfect little cubby on the **** and just got my HomeDock in the mail yesterday. Here is where it gets a bit fuzzy to me as I have tried to take care to think each of my mods and upgrades through carefully- If I am correct the Zune Home Dock like the Ipod Dock is IR and not RF requiring some line of site. Does your current location allow your remote to function or did you have to add an IR repeater? If you went the repeater route would you mind providing me a couple of supporting details? Thanks

Phoenix,
I used Pac-Audio's IR-X and mounted the remote eye below the main console (where the radio is mounted) and the shifter trim piece. If you look there is like a 1/4" gap there. I tried mounting it in the cubby on top of the console but it wasn't good enough line of sight. The location whre it ended up works perfectly.

I have the perfect link for you.... This is exactly what you are trying to accomplish.. and where I got my initial idea from.

Also this is the IR-X on ebay:

And lastly one of the advantages to the Zune is that the firmware to run the Zune does not need to be in the dock like the iPods are... so the docks seem to be fairly straight-forward.

Also the power input on my Homedock was 12.5V DC which made it easy as there was no converter needed to hardwire it up. just an inline 2AMP fuse.

Let me know if I can help with any other questions... thats why i am here! :)
