Hood Release

The hood release on my 2007 Nitro seems to be stretched out and now I am unable to pop open the hood.
I've tried to hold back the release handle that is on the inside by the floor and tried to pull on the cable with some pliers but that didn't work. Either it was the wrong angle for leverage or I was not pulling hard enough in fear of breaking it maybe.
Anyone have any ideas or thoughts on how to open the hood when the cable system is not working?

by your discription i would say the end of the cable has somehow detached at the hood latch !!.

does the inner wire still return back to it's normal resting place or is it loose ?.

I was able to open it pounding on the hood while my wife pulled the cable release. The mechanism looked like it was working when it was opened. But when pulling the release it never has felt like it was doing anything. No resistance or as much as I think there should be.

well done getting the hood open, you should now be able to figure out what the issue is,
not heard of this issue before, so would be great if you could keep us posted on your solution.

Basically after I got it opened I had a can of 3 in one oil handy and just oiled up the parts I could see. Putting some on the cable itself as my wife worked it back and forth. Everything looked like it was working like it should. I tried it again after we got home and the hood popped up like it should.
Guess it is just a matter of keeping things cleaned and lubed.
