Hi, been considering the same question, you can fit different sizes but try to remain close to the same rolling circumference,
this site has a good calculation table to help
http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp
255/50 20 are about 5mm bigger radius, 265/45 20 are about 4 mm smaller but these may not suit the standard rims, 265/50 20 about 10mm bigger. the standard rims arnt that wide to say there 20 diameter, 7.5 inch i think.
one issue is if you change size and the rolling circumferance is different from standard you realy should change all four tyres so as not to upset the electronics ABS etc, it can cope with small differences but maybe not a big tyre change on one axle.
The tyre pressure sensors can be changed, or new ones bought to fit new wheels, Not sure about the Nitro but im told the 300c european sensors operate at a different frequencie to USA and guess what cost alot more. so may be the same for the Nitro.
With the discounts you may get a ood deal on new wheel tyre packages, cheaper than a set of standard tyres.
Theres lots of good info on sizes and styles on this site, i just wouldnt go for chrome, ive had some and our winter road salt loves to eat them.
Just a reminder on sizes, 245 / 50 20, 245 is the width in millimetres to the side wall not necesaroly the tread width, 50 is the aspect ratio it is not a direct measurment it means 50% of the width, 20 is the rim diameter in inches.
The other number on the end (96w) for example as i cant remember actually whats on them is the load speed index, what load each tyre is rated to carry at a given speed. you then look this number up in a table, these are on the net.
Loads of research for you to do!
hope this helps
Keith.
